Job description
Zero Motorcycles is seeking a Quality Engineering Manager to lead field quality activities in Europe and drive resolution of issues across the full product lifecycle. This role will champion the voice of the customer, using field data and customer feedback to prioritize problem-solving and influence both current product improvements and next-generation designs.
What to Expect
The Quality Engineering Manager will manage a team of electrical and manufacturing quality engineers, ensuring issues identified in the field are contained quickly, investigated thoroughly, and driven upstream to design engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing partners for lasting corrective and preventive actions.
This position reports to the Sr. Director of Quality Engineering and partners closely with Zero’s Customer Experience, Global Technical Services, design engineering, and onsite support teams in Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Field Quality Leadership
Monitor field performance and analyze customer feedback to identify emerging issues and prioritize problem-solving efforts.
Coordinate and execute containment actions in warehouses, at dealers, and in the field to minimize customer impact.
Facilitate weekly field quality meetings to review open cases, track progress, and drive accountability.
Participate in monthly executive quality reviews, presenting performance metrics and status of top issues.
Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action
Lead structured 8D root cause investigations for field issues and ensure implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventive measures.
Drive accountability with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and design engineering teams to deliver effective and timely solutions.
Collaborate with onsite Zero support teams at manufacturing partners to ensure production-related issues are addressed promptly and thoroughly.
Customer Experience Partnership & Data Integrity
Partner with the Customer Experience team to gather detailed case information, support diagnosis and root cause analysis, assist in issue prioritization, and validate implemented solutions.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of Salesforce case data, including verifying correct Fault Area and Fault Code categorization to support reliable reporting.
Regulatory & Safety Support
Support field actions related to safety or regulatory campaigns, including data gathering, risk assessment, and corrective action tracking.
Ensure documentation and reporting requirements are met for regulatory compliance.
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Monitor and report on quality KPIs, including field reliability trends and defect rates.
Ensure all quality-related Jira tasks are fully documented, assigned, and completed on time.
Provide regular KPI updates and field quality reports to the Director of Quality Engineering.
Use data insights to drive continuous improvement in product reliability and customer satisfaction.
Product Development
Drive reliability improvements in current designs and ensure field learnings are incorporated into next-generation product development as the voice of the customer.
Partner with design engineering teams to influence and participate in new product validation and early design reviews.
Job requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in quality engineering or field quality within the automotive, aerospace, or EV sectors, including 2+ years in a leadership role managing engineers or leading cross-functional teams.
Strong technical understanding of electrical systems (lithium-ion battery packs, wiring harnesses, BMS, chargers, motor controllers).
Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Demonstrated use of structured problem-solving tools (8D, 5-Why, fishbone) and core quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, control charts, Pareto analysis).
Familiarity with ISO 9001; experience with IATF 16949 or contract manufacturing quality systems is a plus.
Practical, hands-on approach to resolving quality issues in both field and manufacturing environments.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Proficiency with Jira or other structured issue/project management systems.
Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch or other European languages is a plus.
Driving licenses A and B required
Ability to work on or around vehicles and lift up to 23 kg as needed.
