Summary of Position:

The Field Quality Engineer will be a key member of Zero Motorcycle's Quality Engineering organization. This engineer will serve as a prime connection between the field (our customers and dealers) and our greater cross-functional organization. This data-driven problem-solver will be responsible for understanding key field quality performance metrics, identifying potential trends by distilling technical information/data, taking the lead in finding solutions to issues, and ensuring that solutions are swiftly implemented.

A successful candidate must approach problem solving with a sense of urgency and be well versed in commonly used Quality tools and methodologies. They must be able to present complex, technical details to a cross-functional team and provide detailed reports to top management. Lastly, through their diligent pursuit of continuous improvement, the Field Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring we meet and exceed customer expectations.

This position is full time, Monday-Friday, and will work out of our corporate offices in Scotts Valley, California.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify field quality improvement opportunities and lead their enactment.
  • Analyze key field quality performance indicators, such as repairs per hundred, cost per unit, etc., to understand top customer complaints.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders within Quality and Engineering to improve overall field quality.
  • Use core Quality tools and methodologies to determine root cause, implement corrective actions, and validate the efficacy of solutions.
  • Develop a breadth of Zero Motorcycles product knowledge by studying vehicle specifications/drawings, DFMEAs/PFMEAs, and other part/product documentation.
  • Perform failure analysis to drive root cause analysis, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead regular quality reviews that focus on field trends, quality issues, and corrective actions.

Required Education/Experience:

  • BS degree in Engineering or Science (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred).

Skills and Attributes

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related technical degree.
  • Experience working on complex, cross-functional products.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Experience working in a Quality organization in a manufacturing environment (experience in automotive is preferred).
  • Strong practical knowledge of Quality problem solving tools (Fishbone Diagrams, FMEA, Scatter Diagrams, The 5 Whys, Pareto Charts), with a proven history of successful application.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present information to non-technical and technical audiences alike.
  • Solid understanding of the Quality Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP).
  • Experience/Familiarity with GD&T is a plus.
  • Experience/Familiarity with Salesforce and Jira is plus.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Candidate must be able to sit for long periods of time to perform duties, and to move around and make inquiries from other staff and management as needed.
  • Must be able to bend or lift objects up to 50 lbs.

The salary range for this position is $115,000-120,000
